Urban Thinker Campus Geneva 2022
A session dedicated to public/commons partnerships
An alternative to top-down projects
Imagine a world where acting and cooperating with one's peers would make it possible to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Where self-organized groups of people would invent new solutions to meet the essential needs of humanity. Where global and local governments would implement their visions of general interest by supporting these agile approaches based on collective intelligence and open innovation...
A world already here, in the making
This world where cooperation comes before competition is the world of the commons. With modes of organization that have existed since the Middle Ages and that have been brought back to light by the free digital culture, for instance through Wikipedia and Linux. While the private sector is primarily guided by its own interest, the public sector and general interest commoners are united by the need to preserve resources and ecosystems. The public/commons partnerships that emerge produce results that far exceed what governments alone and commoners alone can do.
Practical and action-oriented ways to accelerate the transition
17 goals to save the world, this is how the UN presents the Sustainable Development Goals. In one day, we presented FreeSpace and EXtreme Défis, two decarbonized mobility projects resulting from public/common partnerships. These projects propose radical visions to answer this essential need of humanity. Visions that are very different from public transport and vehicles proposed by the market. And because these projects are commons, they have the capacity to be multiplied, adapted and improved anywhere on the planet.
