With the Unlimited Cities platform, it becomes possible to initiate processes of collective visual intelligence accessible to all to improve territories.
Stakeholders, political authorities and civil society have access to open innovation platforms and tools to co-imagine a truly inclusive and shared environmental transition. (see more below with videos one video made by students in Equador and the other by the Host Lab in Switzerland )
This platform and its variations promote the creation of territorial living labs dedicated to the implementation of the SDGs;
it is used in real situations, in public spaces and goes out to meet people with mediators, reaching all strata of populations, including the most marginalized. In a first phase, the interactions are individual through the manipulation of real and symbolic images, personal comments and a transparent publication in real time of each proposal, called mix. Secondly, the collected mixes are structured according to explicit criteria, to serve as a knowledge base and practical examples for large convivial meetings with the co-authors.
One of the platform's innovations is to combine quantitative and qualitative data, 360° vision and expertise, individual and collective thinking.
It becomes then possible to make people with very different backgrounds working together. The trust generated by the process allows for deliberation on the meaning to be given to territorial transformations, the priorities and the political and technical choices to be privileged, conditions for the best possible appropriation of more inclusive and sustainable lifestyles.
The Host laboratory, author of the platform in 2011, has chosen the organization mode of the commons and free licenses so that civictech can develop its universality, continuing to improve by adding new functional and interoperable bricks. The Open Urbanisms Foundation, with a vocation of public interest, accompanies the development of the platform by guaranteeing by its statutes the conservation of the platform as a common and its free availability.
Since 2012, research-actions are conducted with universities in Central America, Europe and Asia. Projects are being developed with cities, towns and villages on several continents.
Each of these public/commons partnerships, between public research, local governments and the Unlimited commons, has enabled adaptations of the platform to incredibly different social and geographical contexts. These different actors have become co-authors of civictech alongside Host Lab.
